Cooking Workshop for Special Needs Children

Through my years of cooking and teaching I have immensely loved having the opportunity to develop new recipes and teach my students new and creative ways of working around the kitchen. Yet, I am always looking to do a little more. Recently, I had the opportunity to do just that.

I was invited as a celebrity guest along with others from the UK and the USA to conduct a 3-day cooking workshop for special needs children. The workshop took place during the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival which was organized by the Department of Culture and Information.

This cooking workshop was a wonderful initiative by the Sharjah Government to encourage these special needs children to show off their potential and creativity. They were given a chance to try their hand at difference recipes and let their culinary abilities shine.

It has been enriching to be a part of such an initiative and I certainly hope I will get the chance to get involved with similar events in the future.

Chef@Home Cooking Competition Award

I won the Chef@home Cooking Competition 2010 (Season 1) at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek on April 8, 2010. It was a really fun filled evening of tense competition for creating a four course meal to be prepared in an LG SolarDom Light Oven.

Fire-Free Cooking Classes in India Club April 2010

I held a really fun one hour workshop for kids and teenagers one evening in April. We had so much fun. The group learned some very useful and kid friendly recipes like orange sunshine (a mocktail), vegetarian foot long sandwich, Mexican salsa, and sour cream dip. Some of the youngsters in the group are graduating from high school at the end of this school year and will be going off to university abroad. They were eager to pick up some recipes so that they had some basic meal ideas to take along with them.
